The Sunshine Coast’s longest-operating hospital has revealed plans for an exciting new integrated private health service including ‘robotics for rehab’ and a dedicated mental health service to meet the changing needs of the community, into the future.
The plans were announced alongside Noosa Council Mayor Tony Wellington’s unveiling of Eden Private Hospital’s newly installed ‘history wall’, highlighting key milestones and achievements across the hospital’s 110 year history; paving the way for a proposed, $14m hospital redevelopment including a purpose-built mental health unit.
The event with hospital management, staff, doctors and community coincided with the launch of a South East Queensland first in robotic rehabilitation targeting stroke and neurological patients; proven successful in spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and musculoskeletal rehab.
The Healthe Care-owned reputable Cooroy-based private hospital has a long-established history of delivering comprehensive rehabilitation services that either meet or exceed industry benchmarks, evidenced by AROC (Australian Rehabilitation Outcomes Centre) data.
The robotics announcement means Eden Private is the first in South East Queensland to trial robotic and computer-assisted therapy devices of a world-leading provider, to deliver a complete solution for doctors and therapists for a more intensive treatment, in turn, improving patient outcomes and enhancing patient experience while making rehabilitation therapy more motivating and challenging.
The newly-introduced, evidence-based robotic therapy supplements conventional rehabilitation therapy by increasing the number of repetitions during rehab, for positive patient gains.
Eden Private CEO, Jo Munday said, “it’s fantastic that today, we recognise Eden Private Hospital’s long standing history in the community, while embracing innovation and change to support our exciting next chapter of growth.”
“Since 1910, we’ve delivered excellence in private health services to the Sunshine Coast and our regional community. While we’re extremely proud of our reputation as an established provider of comprehensive private medical and rehabilitation services, our expansion plans to deliver integrated private hospital services including inpatient rehabilitation, medical and mental health services will ensure an all-inclusive offering to support recovery and functional improvement from mental illness, trauma, accident, illness and general physical and medical conditions.”
Jo adds, “As a Healthe Care-operated hospital, we’re committed to exploring new and innovative ways to deliver our services whilst ensuring clinical best practice and optimal outcomes for our patients.”
Noosa Mayor, Tony Wellington, added, “I congratulate Eden Private Hospital on their expanded facilities and services, as well as their innovative use of robotics and computer-assisted therapy devices. This hospital began in 1910. It was then the vision of an emancipated female medico, Dr Ellen Wood.”
“That pioneering spirit is echoed in the current approach being taken by Healthe Care under guidance of CEO Jo Munday. I congratulate all involved in the successful rejuvenation of this facility as it continues to provide expert health services to our community.”
